Doesn't work in ogrinfo for me either.  "left" doesn't look like ogrsql or
sqlite dialect to me.

Neither works in 2.18 either for me - neither w/ or w/o "Execute expression on
server-side, if possible" checked.

It works as QGIS expression however.  Where did it work as filter for you?
