Hi,

EPSG:3857 is not using degrees. It is a meter based coordinate system
with very high distortions, esp. towards the poles. That's why it is
only useable up to 85 degrees north and south. The max projected bounds
are:

-20026376.39 -20048966.10
20026376.39 20048966.10

See also http://epsg.io/3857

Of course one can always transform the EPSG:3857 meter based coordinates
back to degrees.
