[Qgis-user] Exporting maps out of QGIS into Adobe Pro to create layered pdf files

Thank you, everyone! I figured that part out with all your help. I’m sure there is so much more to learn, and I’ll have to review the documents.

I know I will be looking to post a polygon along a wellbore at specific intervals. You cannot do this in geoSCOUT – well you can by creating a user database and create repeating tops to trick the program into doing that. I’m thinking QGIS must be capable of posting a line, symbol, polygon etc along specified intervals?

Thanks!
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

You do need to create a Layout. Once you have blank template, you can add elements to it. Right-click the empty page to go to page properties and set the page size. Then, from the lefthand toolbar use the add map icon. Enlarge the map item to fit the page.

You should see your map objects in it. You may need to change the scale of the map. And again in the toolbars theres a icon to move the content in the map.

I hope it helped.

Okay, I found those PDF Export Options - I had to create a Layout Template first, and then if I use the export to PDF it is successful, but TBH my template is blank and I am not sure how to bring things from my map into the template to print to PDF from there. If I go back to the map screen and export the map, it is still exporting as a static unlayered image.

Would anyone happen to know why? And if so, would these things be affecting my ability to export out layered pdf files?

Thanks again,
Jamie

Thank you so much for the quick response.

I'm pretty new to QGIS. In the first link you sent, are those PDF Export Options set in Adobe or in QGIS, and if so, where do I find the settings to see if this how things are currently configured?

I was able to open your map and turn the layers on and off successfully.

Cheers,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

There are several tastes of pdf...

One of them is 'GeoPDF', a layered pdf, which you can create if you create a layout first in QGIS and then export that to pdf.
For the options see: https://us-east-2.protection.sophos.com?d=duif.net&u=aHR0cHM6Ly9kdWlmLm5ldC9wZGZvcHRpb25zLnBuZw==&i=NjQ5Mzg2NjJmZjkyMWQxZWJjMzdlZTIy&t=c1doNm4vaE9oZ2EwTGVVWVZVU2JmZlJZd3luTWVjK05VbE90L2Z2ekxuUT0=&h=c3813583a6ac458e9b68ca37023b1fee&s=AVNPUEhUT0NFTkNSWVBUSVbQ7Gfw17B4TVr-pQzE51zlED6SQ6KUI3my4CFDYCiGSw
I've exported a simple map of two layers to: https://us-east-2.protection.sophos.com?d=duif.net&u=aHR0cHM6Ly9kdWlmLm5ldC9ubC5wZGY=&i=NjQ5Mzg2NjJmZjkyMWQxZWJjMzdlZTIy&t=cG1MR0tOOVBiRU05Y3NPUUJiY2trK29veExXbDBXdHNNYVQ3WFgxbjRxTT0=&h=c3813583a6ac458e9b68ca37023b1fee&s=AVNPUEhUT0NFTkNSWVBUSVbQ7Gfw17B4TVr-pQzE51zlED6SQ6KUI3my4CFDYCiGSw
In most pdf viewers you can check/uncheck both layers, AND you can 'identify' objects there.

Can you check if that is what can be handled by your tools?

So, a former colleague told me that I can import shapefiles into QGIS and export the map to PDF that way - which works! However, when I bring the map into Adobe Pro, none of the separate layers show up and it's just a static PDF image.

Perhaps I have a setting off that I should have enabled, I'm really not sure.
