Hi All,
I would like to just throw my two cents in on this.
If Raster processing is envisaged, push it out to 32 minimum 64 recommended and 128 if you can stretch.
As for Processors, you need as many Threads as you can afford, with a good base clock.
I would agree with the use of SSD I would also recommend the use of a good PCI/NVME drive for boot, operating system and software, but also a second Solid State drive for storage of data you are working on. It's best not to be processing over a network, if at all possible.
Two decent screens are a must and I agree that a good Mouse and Keyboard are almost always overlooked.
In relation to Operating System, Its personal preference. Both Linux and Windows are stable, with varying degrees of involvement.
If you go down the windows operating system route, I would advise using the OSGeo4W installer to install everything. It keeps everything working well in one environment, installing all dependencies. It even making running GDAL or Python commands from Command line easier as it has its own OsGeo4w Shell. Updating and installing additional tools and library's is also a breeze. BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE DEVS!!!
