I'm with you there Paul

This is a FOSS GIS list so please keep on topic. 

As Paul says, employers should not be asking software-specific
questions. Government employers especially, seeing that we have an Open
Source policy in South Africa and ALL government GIS and other software
WILL be FOSS within a few years. 

In the same vein, government tenders are not allowed to request specific
software. Rather, they have to request a solution. This enables ALL
software and solutions providers an opportunity to bid while the FOSS
industry grows. Eventually Government tenders will enforce FOSS software
requirements.

Please help lobby and advocate FOSS in your environment, especially if
you work in Government. Start by sharing GIS tenders and job adverts on
this list and acting as watchdogs for tenders and job adverts that name
proprietary software - share them on this list so that action can be
taken.
