​For my part I wasn't offended just extremely surprised - the reason I
started working on QGIS (12+ years ago just after the project was
announced) was to democratise access to GIS technology - it's free and its
open source and allows anyone with access to even a basic computer to start
capturing and analysing the world around them. I am sure many other open
source developers and projects have similar motivations, and the OSGEO
organisation certainly entertains this as a core value of FOSSGIS, so it is
about as far in the opposite extreme to elitism as you can get....

It's always good to have different views in a group like this, and I hope
you find that the more you participate in FOSS the more inclusive and open
the experience is ... I look forward to your future comments on this
list...! :-)
