My advice is to take this matter up formally with the Committee for Spatial Information through the secretariat (NSIF). Prevention of duplication and reducing cost to the State is one of the key objectives of the SDI Act. Ideally, all this information should become available through the SASDI portal, but I am not aware of any zoning information yet.

Ruan, perhaps the District has them?

Aurecon should not be selling them - we need some grassroots activism from people like you to help change this situation of govt data being inaccessible and being charged for it.

just Google ‘open data south africa’ and upload any Govt data you find to one of those portals if it’s not otherwise accessible. We could also host them on http://maps.kartoza.com.

Yes, I spoke to the GIS department but they only referred me to the online zoning viewer. The online zoning viewer is very poor, as I cannot make good maps.

Aerecon was the consultants on the project, they have all the data but charged R650.00 per plan. This is sad, as they were paid to supply the municipality with the data which should be available to the public.

Have you approached anyone at the Muncipality? If they don't have anything they might be able to refer you to consultants, organisations or companies in Kimberley who might have this information.
