On the 24th of September, the OSGeo Board accepted the formal
creation of the Francophone Local Chapter. This is the first step
toward a strong and stable Local Chapter and the next few months will
see the creation of a legal association (OSGeo-fr) in order to
increase its strength.

This Local Chapter aims to help address internationalization and
localization issues in software and documentation, as well as
consider specific Francophone problems while promoting OSGeo, GFOSS,
open standards and free data.

The mailing list of the Francophone Local Chapter is a community of
more than 115 subscribers from at least 8 different countries
(including France, Switzerland, Canada, Belgium, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo,
New-Caledonia, Italia), and the Francophone Local Chapter wiki
category counts 54 articles.

Find more information about this Local Chapter on the wiki page or
mailing list.
