Regarding the conference logo:
I think we should consider the following when it comes to the logo:
1. The conference theme - 'user driven'
2. Key concepts that logo designers might 'hook' onto i.e. 'the gathering of
the tribes', 'geospatial' , FOSS etc
3. A logo should have impact
4. Simplicity - keeping it simple will help its impact
5. Make sure it works big and small - an over complicated logo might become
clumsy when scaled
5. I think a simple image/silhouette of the opera house is instantly
recognisable as both Sydney and Australia.
6. I agree entirely with the suggestions so far about weaving in Aboriginal
designs into the logo - not only do they provide identity but they add to
the impact of the logo.
7. The ribbon (or whatever it is?) has been used for both 07 and 08 - should
we continue its use, what is it, what does it symbolise?
Also when Tour Hosts are creating the logo - it may be worth specifying
formats that we might need for printed media, website, email footers, a
black and white version, a vector version that can be scaled well, a version
with transparency
Cheers
Simon
