There is an "easy" solution. Keep a copy of all mails outside of
CollabNet in a mbox file or better mailman (subscribe the lists
as normal user to the CollabNet lists).

I did so for several *years* with the old GRASS User list at Baylor
(they didn't even have an archive), then simply opened up my
shadow list (mailman based) and migrated all users to "my" list.
The archives goes back to the very first day in 1991 :-)
