I just casually voted for Gordon thinking vaguely that we nominated him as one of the people originally signed up to go to Chicago. I am not even sure Gordon knows about any of this. I actually don't know him at all. We should just remove him. It's a pretty innocent foobar on my part. Just pull someone else in.

I think the fact that Gordon Luckett was not nominated but was  
elected has raised some eyebrows. The discussion on the IRC channel  
was not very positive. The conclusion seems to be that even though  
there was not an explicit requirement to vote only for people on the  
nominee list, it does not look great to have someone be elected who  
was not on the list.

No one seems to know what Gordon's qualifications relative to open  
source are. Yet there are several strong candidates whose  
qualifications we do know about who were not elected.

The conclusion that can be drawn is that since Gordon is not well- 
known in the community but is well-known to Autodesk, is that his  
election is tainted in some way. It would have been a small matter to  
nominate him at the right time.

I think the best way forward would be for Gordon to decline his  
position, and to do so quickly. If he does not, the rest of the  
membership will always regard him with a bit of suspicion. If he  
does, he can be seen as having the greater interests of the  
organization in mind. He can always be on the slate for the next  
round of memberships.

I don't feel comfortable with the current situation and I think there  
are others who feel the same way. We need to do everything we can to  
rectify this. I'm open to other ideas, perhaps the board will have some.

I don't know Gordon personally, nor did I vote for him, so I would  
not be the appropriate person to talk to him about this.
