I added this as an item to the upcoming Board meeting.

It would be good to know more about what benefit OSGeo would gain
(institutionally, and for its members) in being active on this issue.
Is there potential project funding (or the ability to direct it) at
stake? :)

I would suggest that David Bitner the chair of the Geodata Committee
could be usefully nominated as contact person, if he's happy to do so
given we have a sense of what time commitment or document preparation
would be needed. OSGeo-US doesn't have a distinct chapter, just a set
of regional ones, right? ;)
