Arnulf,
I don't see Cameron's nomination in the list posted for the vote this
morning at http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_Member_Nominations_2012
Is it that he explicitly refused his nomination or just that you and
Cameron didn't get the feedback you expected in order to make a decision?
My take is that F2F meetings are important and useful, but not a
show-stopper if a director is able to contribute in other ways (which I
have no doubt Cameron could do). As long as we can still get at least
quorum at the face to face meeting, and the rest joins via
teleconference for instance then the F2F would still be useful.
However, monthly IRC/voice meetings are very important and must be
attended by all board members as much as possible, and we've
demonstrated in the past that holding meetings with participant from all
around the globe is possible.
I personally think it is fair for a candidate to state that he/she could
not travel, as long as he/she is willing and committing to make the
monthly IRC board meetings, and then we can let the charter members
decide with their votes if they want this candidate or not, taking in
consideration the travel limitations vs his/her profile and his/her
possible contributions to the board.
All this to say that I was hoping to see Cameron's nomination to be
included for the elections and would like to know why he was not included.
Thanks
Daniel
