Dear Board,

regarding the potential loss of up to 100 conference videos from FOSS4G 2014 due to expiration of a VIMEO account, I'd like to reiterate this, as posted on the Conference list earlier:

Video content is today recognized by research libraries as part of heritage.
OSGeo videos can be simultaneously kept both in VIMEO/YouTube and research libraries (free of charge), provided the licenses are compatible.

The German National Library of Science and Technology (http://www.tib.uni-hannover.de/en/ I work for them) has started to permanently preserve audiovisual recordings from OSGeo conferences as part of the global technological heritage in 2014. You can find all currently available video content from FOSS4G and FOSSGIS conferences here: https://av.getinfo.de/ [suggested search string: FOSS4G] More FOSS4G-related videos are being processed right now, to be released in the near future. This service, including the long term preservation of the audiovisual content over decades is free of charge. Every video is assigned with a permanent digital ID (Digital Object Identifier (DOI)), which allows for convenient sharing via URLS in webbrowsers including "in-video" quotes, like "Jeff says something super-importtant from time-code 1:00 to 1:10", fast-forwarding to exactly to the referred statement.

A presentation about this effort was given at this years FOSS4G-EU: http://tinyurl.com/o85x7k9

Best regards,
Peter
