Indeed Steven,
You can also argue that we have underinvested in the past years. Which has caused an inflated amount of cash on our balance sheet.
Additionally another financial perspective is applicable. One where current profits from outreach events are reinvested in further outreach (Foss4g 2016 made a rather nice profit for the foundation, thanks to frugal management by the LOC). Thus our mission is enabled by a Perpetuum Mobile business model which secures continuity.
Thirdly, we can safely assume that 'Boston' will also make a profit and Dar Es Salam will cost us next to no money (no risk). So for the medium future financial liabilities will be minimal.
