My name is Silvana Camboim, I am the current chair of ICA Commission on Open Source Geospatial Technologies, a co-chair in the South American region of Geo for

All, and I´ve been coordinating a Geo for All Lab at Federal University of Paraná (Curitiba, Brazil) since 2013.


I am writing on behalf of a group of Brazilian researchers, professionals, and students articulated to organize a meeting/conference with the main subjects on Free and Open Source Software for GIS (FOSS4G) in 2017. The idea is to spread the FOSS technology and knowledge on its use among others researchers, students, and professionals.


Knowing the OSGeo effort to support and promote initiatives like our, would be interesting to align with OSGeo proposal. We know the Brazilian chapter is not active, thus, we could contact the Brazilian members to get their engagement, if it is the case. As we have FOSS4G conferences in neighbour countries such as Argentina, we would like to know what would be the procedure to organize one in Brazil next year.
