Sorry, was a little busy when we did the intros, just catching up now.

Alex Mandel
Masters Student in the Geography Graduate Group, UC Davis
On contract with the California Dept. of Fish & Game

My research is in Biogeography, but my hobby is in web based tools for
participatory action research.

I'm a big proponent of FOSS for everything and I'm active in several
local FOSS related orgs.(Run Linux - Ubuntu at home, technically on the
UbuntuGIS launchpad team)

Most of the stuff I do is in python, with cross platform a big goal.

Here's the talk I did at FOSS4G:
http://www.foss4g2007.org/presentations/view.php?abstract_id=245

And the class using FOSS that I'm coordinating right now:
https://svn.cse.ucdavis.edu/trac/geo298-09f07/

I've submitted to talk about the course at the AAG in Boston in April,
focusing on why Open Source should be taught at Universities and how to
develop new courses using a collaborative team process.

Alex
