Hi folks,

I thought I had already subscribed to the mailing list. I have missed a
month of discussion. Now I'm subscribed to the list ;-)

We have issued a call for location for the German conference, I think
there are a few similarities to FOSS4G Europe: read it here, (sorry its
in german): https://files.fossgis.de/Konferenz/CfL_FOSSGIS.pdf

We also have the issue of the upper limit of participants, which
increases every year. Just 10 years ago there were between 250 and 450
participants, which always depends a bit on the location. We are now at
700 participants, and probably up to 800 participants would come.
We have solved this by offering the conference as a hybrid, so that you
can at least follow the presentations and ask questions, even if you no
longer have an onsite ticket.
We are making the BoF sessions and community session hybrid.

Unfortunately, it is also difficult to find locations for the
German-language conference. The last Call for Location resulted in the
fact that we have not yet been able to determine a location for 2026.
We need a dedicated person at the location who will bring the event to
the location and adapt it accordingly and having a strong team around
you to organise a unique event. The ticketing, programme compilation,
organisation of helpers and much more are already taken care of by the
permanent organisation team, which volunteers every year. Nevertheless,
it is difficult to win a location.

Under Additional information it says: ‘Cooperation with universities of
course implies careful selection of conference date, which is usually,
but not necessary, in the holiday season.’ We also have this approach
and I have noticed that it is becoming increasingly difficult with
universities because they have to organise their events in an
increasingly profit-oriented way, because some administrations make
decisions that do not really suit the will of their specialist
institutes, which in turn have few resources. Increasingly, normal
market prices are being charged and it takes an influential person who
can negotiate in the right place.

If you like, I would be happy to contribute a little knowledge and
experience.

I find the schedule, content, format and criteria suitable.

Kind regards
Katja
