Hello fellow OSGeo conference committee members,
I would like to thank those who were able to attend last week's
conference call with the Sydney bidding committee. Major topics such as
the proposed team, budget, venue, and accommodation were all discussed.
For those topics that were a little unclear for the bidding team at
this stage (such as handling workshops) it was agreed that there is
sufficient time to deal with these before 2009.
The next step in the process for deciding on a 2009 location must be a
vote by the OSGeo conference committee, and then this proposed location
must be approved by the OSGeo Board members. The next board meeting is
next Friday February 8th, where the plan is to present our committee
decision to the board.
Therefore we must still vote on the one submitted bid. Usually we would
do the voting privately, but considering the circumstances I think it
should be optional this year - if prefer to keep your voting private you
can email me directly your vote, otherwise we can all use this mailing
list. Please use "+1" to indicate you support the Sydney bid, "0" for
no opinion, and "-1" for disagreement. Please submit your votes before
next Friday.
I'll start with a +1. (their passion and enthusiasm for FOSS4G is
evident, and they have a strong team)
-jeff
