[OSGeo-Discuss] Code of Conduct... followup to avoid lobbies

Luigi,

I respect your points, and whilst I agree that in some (maybe even most)
situations, it is not a brilliant, if charter members are nominated by
people from their own company, I still do not see the need for elaborate
rules. Our current bylaws* clearly states that "*...Thereafter, to be
eligible for membership, a person must be nominated by an existing member
of the corporation pursuant to a written document in such form as shall be
adopted by the Board of Directors from time to time. The nomination must be
included in a notice to the members at least ten (10) days in advance of
the meeting at which the members will vote on the applicant’s admission.
Proposed members shall be admitted upon the affirmative vote of the members
of the corporation...*"

So, as it is now, the community does in fact have to recognize every single
charter member elected. My point against elaborate rules is both that they
are in my point of view distrustful, and that there will *always* be
situations that are not covered by such detailed rules. With the current
bylaws we have the possibility to act on that in our voting, but with
elaborate rules people could reasonably think that "if it is not forbidden
it is allowed".

Cheers,

Greg
