I enjoy seeing this effort unearthing itself from the wiki graveyard,
twitching in the daylight. I have a lot of irritating questions, which
I spewed onto the talk page rather than get into an email loop about:

I think you should definitely float this on the main OSGeo discuss list 
once there's more to get feedback about; I bet you'd get a lot of
general interest; the subject of OSGeo book production also came up 
on VisCom list recently... 

You know, thinking about the GRASS newsletter and wondering how well
this could work as a subscription-based series, like they used to
do in the 17th/18th century, both for online version and hardcopy...
