Looking at above list, and Venka's answer:

I actually get the feeling that we are adressing two different issues,
here. One is developping OSGEO courses, the other is to create a
collection of course material (OSGEO or others). The software to chose
is obviously different.

In my eyes moodle, claroline etc are worth using only if we are planning
real e-learning courses which include more than just texts to read, i.e.
quizzes, forums, etc. This means that these courses would be the focal
point for a learning community which interacts via the learning
management system. If the courses are supposed to be simple texts, then
a full-fledged LMS seems overkill.

Charlie's idea of module metadata system also does not really justify an
LMS in my eyes.

Just my 2 Euro-cents worth.
