Wonderful Mark! Welcome!

We are just about to commence a project that aims to produce a purpose built for education geospatial tool. We wish to base the tool on open source software. We will be producing supporting material to aid teachers.

Sounds great! As you probably know we do have quite a list of material
already online at [1]. One of our group goals is to start organizing
this material and new material that people are willing to contribute in
an open content way. So you're efforts sound quite in sync with ours.

FYI, we have permission from the Association of American Geographers to
use their GIS&T Body of Knowledge [2] as an organizing framework for our
content, but have yet to do this restructuring. That is one issue on our
group's agenda.

Secondly, I'm hoping we can move toward a "new derivative" system for
educational materials using our Subversion system as a respository for
the documents that can be revised by others. We really need some people
in this group with material available to step up and take a lead by
storing educational content that can be revised by others (while still
linking the material in Subversion to our inventory system [1]) and
helping to develop instructions on how to do this process to make it
easier for others to do the same.

Over the last 5 years or so, we've established a *really great* group of
people from a number of different continents with this common goal and
interest some of whom have responded to this call for a teleconference.
Our challenge is to keep collaborating and loosely coordinated knowing
everyone is busy... It's great to see this revised energy, all.

Cheers
Charlie

Great to hear from you and please add your material via the online submission form [1] or let me know if you'd like to try out the subversion repository so others could use and create new derivatives. We need a few people to show some leadership on this end to get a content derivative system operational (hint hint lurkers... ;-) )...
