Well done on the Free GIS Book.

Regarding translation: We have been translating multiple pages, into 
multiple languages for the OSGeo-Live project, and I'd be happy to help 
coordinate translation of the Free GIS Book in a similar manner.

I would suggest breaking up the Free GIS Book into lots of small 
sections that are short enough for a volunteer to easily translate by 
themselves, and then track using a similar spreadsheet to the one we use 
for the OSGeo-Live projects:
