[OSGeo-Edu] Academic event?

Couple items on our May offer:

1. We can modify our original Summit schedule to make Wednesday May 23 the workshop day there at Georgia Tech.
2. We might secure lab space from Georgia Tech for the workshop through our affiliation with their Research Institute, gratis?
3. We can offer to bring our FOSS trainer, Kurt Menke, to offer our Intro to FOSS4G course he taught in Denver last month and is offering the February at AAG
4. We can offer our Adobe Connect server to meet virtually to plan all this.

Boy, I sure would like to go to EU this summer for a workshop.

Terrific! I think a European and US workshops on this would be great. I'm working with Phil to see how we get the virtual meeting set up. More soon on that front.

Perhaps we should think also think about going after some funding to support someone as an academic coordinator of sorts.

Folks,

I'm interested in a academic workshop, which could be composed the way Tyler suggests. My main interest for the workshop is to plan and develop an OSGeo edu virtual machine / live system - i.e., not a single system but mainly develop the method, procedure and capabilities for making packages that are used to compose such systems.

I already presented this idea to Charlie and Suchith and offered to organize it in Finland some time in the early spring (February would be best for me). University facilities for me at least are free and I could even have some small support for it to pay the food for example. Atlanta (Georgia Tech) would also be possible but it is of course expensive for me to travel to USA and bringing my students is problematic.

European funding for this kind of thing is COST - the next collection date is 30 March - so if we have a meeting in Feb, we could also plan for a COST action. I think we could have a nice group for a COST action if we get Nottingham, Girona, Trento and possibly some others (what do you say?). I've not been in a COST before so I have only superficial knowledge of it.

Best regards,

Ari

  Hi all,

Would anyone be interested in having an OSGeo Educators
workshop/conference sometime in 2012? Hi all,

Sorry for my silence -- I've been traveling a great deal this month and cannot keep up with the influx of emails. I think we should have our first OSGeo edu "virtual meeting" about this idea.
I find myself wondering if some of us could collaborate on one or multiple proposals somewhere to pay for workshop participants to travel to such an event. For example -- US or EU funding sources perhaps?

Phil, I think you said you had the capability to hold a virtual meeting for our group?

Charlie
