I think we can move forward the different options and ideas if we have a virtual meeting. After awhile email starts to get confusing.
Thank you
Rafael

I would agree with Suchith and Mike. We could do a virtual meeting first to lay the groundwork and then meet at the location Phil suggested

I think it will good to plan two events. One in USA in the date and venue Phil suggested and another in Europe later based on Ari's suggestion. That way travel costs will be minimum for participants.

Maybe we can discuss details during our Edu virtual meeting ?

I think this is an outstanding initiative. OSGEO really whet my appetite. While virtual is certainly less impact on schedule, I think Phil has proposed a great venue and time.

Hi all,

Would anyone be interested in having an OSGeo Educators
workshop/conference sometime in 2012? I have a sense that
this is overdue and can serve two purposes (at least):

* help train your colleagues (hands-on workshops for 1-2 days)
* present topics applying to your work, achievements, research papers, etc. (1 day)
* bring together OSGeo Edu committee to work together on planning/ideas (1 day)

Basically more than we can do at a BOF in FOSS4G events, yet light enough
that it can be planned with flexibility.

I'm thinking of 2-3 days, probably in Spring in USA as a starter. I haven't forgot
about other countries on the list and would be interest there too if there was
good demand for it. I suggest USA first as this is something I could help coordinate
here more easily on.

As you know I can't organise it through OSGeo directly anymore as my job here
ends in a month, but I am looking for ways to continue to serve the community
by running some events like these at a reasonable cost.

Anyone interested? I have a few ideas for venues, but that would be
the next question - I assume some university facilities represented on this
list may be available for reasonable prices - let me know if you think so.

Tyler

We have an event scheduled May 21-23 @ Georgia Tech Conference Center that might be good venue.

Hi all,

Sorry for my silence -- I've been traveling a great deal this month and
cannot keep up with the influx of emails. I think we should have our first
OSGeo edu "virtual meeting" about this idea.
I find myself wondering if some of us could collaborate on one or multiple
proposals somewhere to pay for workshop participants to travel to such an
event. For example -- US or EU funding sources perhaps?

Phil, I think you said you had the capability to hold a virtual meeting for
our group?
