Yes, we should focus on EPEL, we should give more preference to EPEL6.
EPEL 5 may have circular dependencies, but still will give a try :)

Agreed, the version in EPEL 5 is bit older. There are other gis
packages too...like gdal.

Yes, I do.

All of us should work together and keep this repo updated regularly ,
we all know that there is a huge requirement and need to maintain this
repo somewhere. So, why cant it be on EPEL, if you see some package is
not updated, you can also update it (join as a co-maintainer, the
process is very simple and easier than making an rpm in a local
machine). I can also volunteer you on this, I mean for updating and
packaging.

So, lets work together.... :)
