[FOSS-GPS] Basic information on DGPS using RTKLIB

Hi list,
I am doing some background research to figure out how I might use RTKLIB to
set up DGPS for use with a base station and several rovers. After skimming
the RTKLIB manual and some various sources on the web, I'm still a little
confused.
What data is sent from the base station to rover to allow performing
corrections?
Are there choices in the protocol used to transmit this data?
After the rover processes the correction, how can other processes running
on the rover access the corrected position in real time? Alternatively, are
library functions provided that would allow a program to process raw GPS
data, apply the correction data from the base, and perform subsequent
operations with the corrected position?
Thanks for any help.
Jake
