 chmod 666 /dev/ttyUSB0 everything worked like a

I am happy you are a GNU/Linux user and you have solved the problem.
Under Debian GNU/Linux i have had this problem before and i solved adding myself as member of  "dialout"  group ( I remember now) . 
Maybe you should try it under Mint. This way you do not have to change /dev/ttyUSBx permission.
