[FOSS4G-Oceania] Swag

Hi all

There have been some previous discussions about swag at the conference, and
various items have been discussed including:
- Drink bottles
- Keep cups
- Mugs / coasters
- Tea towels
- Notebooks / pens
- USB sticks
- Totes

For most of these items, https://bepromotive.com.au/ appears to have a lot
of options at reasonable prices.
https://www.teatowelkeepsakes.com.au/custom-printed-tea-towels/ specialises
in tea towels.

Having said that, it's irking me that a lot of these options are common
items that many people will already have a bunch of, and there doesn't
appear to be much consensus in the discussions so far.

So I had a different idea today.

Could we give away books that are relevant to the conference, and throw in
a bookmark with our conference logo + the Platinum sponsor logos to fulfill
our end of the bargain that Platinum sponsors will have their logo on the
conference merch?

A few benefits that I see:
 - Our main spend under this option goes back to the community
 - Everyone receives an educational item that they can use beyond the few
days they're at the conference
 - Can easily be shared with others that we aren't reaching at the
conference itself

I'd be really keen to get some suggestions on books, but along the lines of:
 - QGIS Map Design by Anita Graser and Gretchen Peterson
 - PostGIS in Action by Regina Obe and Leo Hsu
 - City Maps by Gretchen Peterson
 - The Book of OSM by Steve Coast

We could potentially order a few extra so that everyone has choices, and
then identify a community that we can donate the remainder to.

I do a bit of laser cutting and one option for a bookmark would be to laser
cut it out of 1.6mm Beech ply - so it would still be a really nice piece of
conference merchandise. Another (likely cheaper) option would simply be to
get some bookmarks printed on good quality cardstock.

This will definitely be more expensive than the sort of items listed above
that range from $5-$10, so we'll need to see if it is achievable within our
budget.

Thoughts? Support for looking into this idea further?

Oh, and I think we still need speaker gifts, so there's hope for the tea
towels and socks yet...

Thanks
Daniel
