Its  a fine line to walk, being fair but overcoming bias.
I agree with Adam,  we need to be wary of the ... "only inviting because...
territory. "
But I think we are at a point where we need to be proactive in seeking out
the diversity mix we are aiming for. What matters in the end is seeing the
diversity played out in talks and stories being presented.
I don't have any answers as what to set as a number or what is a good
measure, but in regards to gender diversity the percentage of female
presenters is too low for the blind selection process to give an acceptable
result

I would support the extension of the deadline.  but the language around why
needs to be carefully considered.
