[Foss4g2009] FOSS4G Conference Presentations and an academic track

All,

I am getting enquiries from some who have already submitted abstracts as to how they can ensure their paper is considered for the academic track.

We need to come up with a policy on this and this also raises an issue around how do we distinguish between normal and academic abstracts. Hence I have added Volker to this email to get his thoughts on this. Can we simply add a new field to the abstract page which is Academic (true/false). Set all those that are already in their to false, and email them all to log back in to change it if they want.

Or are we proposing a different abstract submission website for the academic abstracts?

Regards

Harley

Thanks, Simon.

The allocation seems reasonable, with the academic track running all
day, on Thursday, 22th. With 3 different sessions, we will try to keep
related papers on the same session, with nice titles for each section.

Related to the site update, I'll go around to identify things we can
change to reflect the announcement of the academic track. I'll ask
Thierry to help me with that, and we will send the suggestions with cc
to Shoaib Burq.

We need also someone to create a new mailing list for the scientific
committee. We must have more people joining the committee, to help
spread the word and have more people involved. When I need one for our
local chapter, Lorenzo created it for me. If there is one
“super-osgeo-user” reading this, please initiate a
scientific-committee-2009 [@lists.osgeo.org]. If it no so easy, I can
run one on our local chapter domain (but I would prefer one on
lists.osgeo.org).

Regards,

Jorge
