G'day Tyler,

I will put something together as soon as we're able.

I have a call with Raj on Tuesday where we will discuss the best way to answer this. We will be preempting CCIP community discussion. Let me know if you need more than this email in the short term.

Suffice to say that we aim to have a much more structured project approach to the 2010 event, with more time for planning and project delivery. I would ideally like to have a one day stream at FOSS4G-2010 dedicated to CCIP-2010 where participants could expose their work in more detail. We have yet to have this conversation with both communities though. We are also aiming for significantly higher sponsorship dollars.

CCIP would bring in more revenue to FOSS4G in participants alone, exposing (some) to FOSS4G perhaps for the first time. It will also bring in revenue from Conference facilities etc. There will also be a great additional stream of marketing for FOSS4G-2010. 

Strategically, FOSS4G will be seen as great community partners of OGC and in doing something positive in the Climate arena to try and make systems interoperable  and to help ensure that the real 'numbers' are available for scrutiny via open standards.

I anticipate that the lessons learned will come out of the SWOT analysis.


One thing that we would like to pursue with greater vigour this year is to how to get greater Open Source spatial participation in the event.

One idea that I'm pursuing is the idea of CCIP Participant partnerships between science communities and spatial communities / vendors. We should be able to achieve this if we target the scenarios right. This may give OS Communities the opportunity to get involved via a 'science' sponsor, perhaps an organisation like my own.

Anyway, these are preliminary thoughts that need to be worked through with the relevant communities.

Hi Bruce, glad to here you've recovered enough ;)

For me the CCIP process was a bit opaque - could you give Lorenzo and the rest of us an overview on the main benefit of running the process?  e.g. how did it add value to the FOSS4G event - both subjectively and financially.  And how much work did it require from someone on the LOC?

Also, do you have any sort of "lessons learned" compiled anywhere?
