Hi, list

The Beijing LOC team, together with some volunteers, has regular meetings
on Tuesday evenings (7:00pm local, 11:00am UTC). The following is a short
report on the last meeting. More similar (weekly) reports are planned for
future meetings. Please note that I'm not a member of the LOC, so this one
should not be considered as official.

The Beijing team is contacting 3S News, a company which is very experienced
in organizing geospatial-related conferences. If everything goes well,
FOSS4G 2012 will receive professional conference organizing support soon.

The LOC is working on a detailed list of tasks that can be done by non-LOC
volunteers and how many are needed for each task. The tasks are already
listed, so it won't take long.

The LOC has a list of potential keynoters/lightening_talkers/presenters and
has already e-mailed some of them. A report on their responses will follow.

The people who are in charge of the website are aware of the issues
reported, and are working with mymova.com, which hosts the website, to get
the problems fixed. Simple issues like encoding should be solved within a
few days.

The LOC will give their FOSS4G 2012 programs plan (not final) in 2-3 weeks.
A simple draft may be available earlier.

An official Twitter account will be set up for updates and announcements.
The LOC also plans to use similar popular-in-China services to reach the
locals.

Previous meetings were done privately using Skype. Future meetings (in
English) are planned to be moved to the public IRC channel freenode.net#osgeo.
This should help to increase transparency and to get more volunteers
joining the force. If you're interested, please meet us on #osgeo next time.
