Gerald,
Great to see you lurking on this list.
Selection of keynotes has traditionally been the responsibility of the
LOC, and still is. Technically, I have been invited (and have accepted)
to be part of the LOC. Hence I feel responsible for helping out with
tasks, and one of the most urgent of tasks is finalising on keynotes and
getting them published on the website.
In the last FOSS4G weekly meeting, I was asked to put forward a list of
recommended keynotes for the LOC to consider, which I have done. My list
was based upon a couple of prior suggestions from other FOSS4G people,
and a list of people who have noted their intention to attend FOSS4G in
Beijing which was provided to me.
(Of note, when I chaired foss4g 2009, I similarly asked a couple of
others with more experience than I to recommend keynotes, and so I
thought it appropriate for me to give that back to foss4g 2012).
Oh, and lastly, I do believe the LOC wish to continue with community
selection and recommendation of papers for the general sessions. From
prior experience I'm aware that was a decent amount of work to
coordinate, and would be a great contribution from someone outside the
local team to have to coordinate. (For the 2009 FOSS4G in Australia, we
had someone from New Zealand do this coordination for us). Interested?
