[Foss4g2013] [Board] FOSS4G 2013 wrap up in London - notes

I'm moving this email thread to the conference-dev email list, such that 
people interested in, and experience with conferences, have an 
opportunity to contribute. I encourage OSGeo board members to join this

There are some great ideas listed to improve future events.

While reading these lessons learned, and remembering prior foss4g events 
and their lessons learned, I reckon we are seeing a gradual improvement 
in the quality of FOSS4G events, and I believe the documenting of 
lessons learned is helping with that.

Bart,
You have mentioned that you are looking at the RFP for 2015? The Foss4g 
2013 committee have specific recommendations on how to improve the RFP. 
It would be good to have them incorporated.

In particular, we on the conference email list should define our 
position on key funding questions such as who should receive a free 
ticket. It is unfair to have organising committees receive criticism due 
to unclear criteria passed down to them.

I recommend someone write a proposal for any position which needs 
changing or clarification, then have the conference-dev list vote on it, 
then have the words incorporated into the RFP or FOSS4G Cookbook.

I'm also hopeful that sections from the Lessons Learned text will be 
copied across into the Cookbook in draft format, and then the 
conference-dev list can vote on and approve the new sections.

Jeff, it would be good to see the ideas you have been collecting added 
into one of these wikis too.
