[Gdal-dev] Installing GDAL

Hello,
 
I am trying to install GDAL in my computer using Visual Studio .NET 2003 command prompt. I am assuming that I don't have to run vcvars32.bat for this. I did cd to GDAL root directory as per the instruction in the website. But when I type the command 
C:\GDAL> nmake /f makefile.vc, I got the error message that nmake is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
 
Can anybody help me?
