Yes but it requires a bit of hacking.

The HDF library has an internal NetCDF library
that you can either be exposed or not by tweaking 
the headers   I believe this is in the hdf2netdff.h file

grep HAVE_NETCDF  in the HDF tree for 'hints' about
how to do this
