[Gdal-dev] Performance with .TAB files (MapInfo format)

Dear all,
I'm searching for a way to optimize performance of OGR in reading features
stored in Mapinfo binary datafiles.

What I've noted is that a commercial product like MapInfo Mapxtreme is five
times (and more!) faster than an open product (like Mapserver with OGR),
with the same layers and data files...

Do you have any idea about that?
