[Gdal-dev] error using gdal_translate

Hi ,

I'm a newbie to GDAL. I'm trying to do a subset of  geotiff image using the
"-srcwin" option with gdal_translate utility.

I used the utility as in

gdal_translate -of GTiff -srcwin 100 100 400 400  input.tif  test.tif

and I get the following error

ERROR 4: 'test.tif' not recognised as a supported file format.

any ideas on why this happened? does this indicate any problem with my
installation ?
