Dan, 

I haven't run into this problem, but in September 2004 I did upgrade
to libpng 1.2.6, so it is entirely possible that some problems were
also introduced at that point.  

I do have one or two simple png driver tests in my testsuite, so that
suggests to me that the png support for my FWTools builds must
have been working before recent FWTools releases.  

It is  good idea to submit a detailed bug report so I can try and reproduce
the issue, though I don't have access to a PC till Friday.
