[Gdal-dev] is that ecw format is really supported?

hi list,

I would like to know if the ecw format is really
supported by gdal. Because i'm trying to make à
tileindex with gdaltindex and finally  I obtain  a
.shp, a .dbf and a .shx without data.
 
I write : "gdaltindex ./index1.shp ./raster/*.ecw" in
debian Konsol

But, when i made a tileindex with GTiff, it run fine.

have you got an idea about this problem?
