Not a core dump, but I'm getting a trace trap thing:
Sumomo:~ williamk$ gdal_translate -of JP2ECW s24141.tif testold.jp2

0.Trace/BPT trap
I don't think GDAL is having a problem reading the file (saved from
Photoshop) - I used the same file to time test the JasPer JP2 output,
so it must be ECW. I have ECW (3.3RC1) built the old way thru
configure, with the multiple libraries. ER left out the qmake-
generated makefile for the dynamic libecwj2 in this release, so I
couldn't try that (maybe that's one of those 'other queries' Tom
Lynch mentioned).
Mac OS 10.4.3 on a PowerBook G4.
And I just added ECW to my GIS Libs package... :(
