[Gdal-dev] GDAL/OGR and the MapServer Foundation

I think the Mapserver Foundation is a very exiting development and I 
wish everyone involved the best experience and clear communication now 
and into the future. I have no opinions to offer on whether gdal should 
be a part of the foundation or not, save that Frank has shown exemplary 
leadership for a long time and that I trust his judgement in this matter 
completely.

That said, I can foresee some distinct advantages to being a member 
project. One of those being that it would be easier for people like me 
in organisations like mine to fund further development. It is difficult 
to sell to management on "buying" gdal functionality from some guy in 
his basement. Still possible though! Thanks to an enlightened 
surpervisor we now have the cded format in gdal. :)
