[Gdal-dev] how to read tiff

hi 
i am new to GDAL and i want to know that how can i u GDAL for reading tiff i have seen internal tiffs header files used by maptools for reading tiff but how can i use  tiff functions for reading headers and other files info   using GDAL  kindly help soon
