Ben,

Your MSVC7 project was a good starting point but just after hours of
work last night I got it to work on version 8 (Visual Studio 2005). Now
it compiles faster and I can use the interactive debugging
functionalities, like I wished.

Do the Project/Solution file(s) for VC7.1 not work in VC8?
i.e. http://vterrain.org/Distrib/gdal.html
I would imagine that they should work.
