[Gdal-dev] transform on a shapefile using OGR - image 2 projected coordinates

Hallo everybody,

in the documentation of ogr2ogr i found the switch -transform...
What functionality does that imply , and how to apply that switch.

problem:
shapefile with coordianates in image e.g. LLC is 0,0 and URC is 9800,8600
but need to "transform" (soory old arcinfo command ) that to
projection extent e.g. 450000, 560000

solution:
can do that with arcinfo workstation by converting shape to cover and 
applying transform command.. ( even in batch), but want to stay in shp file.

any clue if ogr2ogr supports that ?
I tried several ways/switches but are somehow lost..
