[Gdal-dev] can not perform "gdal_merge.py", "gdal_rgb2pct.py" and "pct2rgb.py"

Do you use Unix/Linux?
Have you built GDAL from sources or installed form packages?
I use Ubuntu 5.10 (Debian) and gdal_merge.py script is available from
package 'python-gdal'.

What do you get from:

$ which gdal_merge.py

or

$ locate gdal_merge.py
