Yes, I did some googling after sending that note, and found much the 
same thing -- Frank contributed to some of the threads, of course!

RDBMS store data in multiple files anyway -- how much is marketing like 
that really worth?

In reading the threads in the postGIS list, there are some good reasons 
for having the data in the DB -- if you need features that can really 
make use of it, then I guess ArcSDE is the way to go. Oh well.
