[Gdal-dev] IMAGE_STRUCTURE metadata - rfc discussion

Folks,

I've started drafting an RFC to formalize handling of metadata about
image structure in the IMAGE_STRUCTURE domain.  It is at:

My concrete needs to a mechanism to handle signed 1-byte data, and to
broaden use of NBITS, but I thought this was a good time to iron out a
few other things that have been handled informally, or not at all.
